The Magic of Christmas – Quartetto Gelato
The Magic of Christmas (out worldwide November 7) is a 13-track collection of classic and timeless holiday songs set to lush arrangements that spark the festive spirit within. A perfect musical backdrop to the festive season that is just around the corner, The Magic of Christmas paints whimsical interpretations by Quartetto Gelato, the quartette that has become revered asCanada's most avant-garde classical group of the past decade.
Musica Latina
In 2009 Quartetto Gelato will release “Musica Latina”, a hot new sound and style with the sensational addition of percussion to QG’s mix of instrumentals and songs. The cd includes Argentinian Tangos, Peruvian folk songs, Mexican ballads and some spicy Cuban favourites that will leave the audience screaming for more! Quartetto Gelato has never sounded better and Peter’s voice is perfectly suited for the heat of this Latin flavour.

Favourite Flavours
QG looks back at ten years of performance and recording with this popular CD representing audience favourites such as Tango Del Mare, Al di la, and O Sole Mio. This is all about the sheer fun of making music – exuberance, high energy, and humour – combined with awesome technique. Still, all that skill never gets in the way, never obscures the fact that above all, what’s in the package, on this disc is a huge love of a good tune.

Quartetto Gelato travels the Orient Express
“It’s got to be the year’s most fun journey – from London by way of Flanders & Swann’s gentle little Slow Train, to Paris, Munich, Budapest, Vienna, Bucharest and ending up at a wide-eyed wonder of a Turkish Circus, in Istanbul. It’s mostly familiar music but it isn’t always familiarly packaged. For instance, did you know there was a vocal to the Rigaudon in Ravel’s Le Tombeau de Couperin? I didn’t either, but Peter DeSotto does – and sings it with the high-mountain exuberance of a Swiss yodeler! The whole lot is a fabulous ride but I do confess a certain awestruck delight at the Turkish Circus. Thank goodness there’s a cool-down Danny Boy as a bonus track right after.

Rustic Chivalry
From sullen and moody to joyful virtuosity the range of emotion in this album is truly a tribute to the composers. From the intimate treatment of Mascagni’s “Cavaleria Rusticana”, to the unbridled Monti’s Czardas, along with the brilliant violin, cello duet, “Handel Halvorsen’s Passicaglia”.
